Under-10 Football Programme

Ibusa FC’s Under-10 programme is where our football story begins. It is open to children aged nine and under, and offers a structured, nurturing introduction to the game — one that prioritises enjoyment, confidence, and the fundamentals of football above everything else.

We believe the grassroots is where a lifelong love of football is either built or lost. At Ibusa FC, we take that responsibility seriously.

How we work

Sessions are delivered once or twice per week at Ugwu-Atakpo Primary School, Umejei Road, Ibusa. Every session follows three clear stages: a fun, ball-centred warm-up; mini-games that give players plenty of touches and the freedom to express themselves; and a real-game to finish, where children put what they have practised to the test in unstructured match play.

Our coaching approach at this level is deliberately light-touch. We do not over-coach. We create an environment where children feel safe to try things, make mistakes, and come back next session wanting more. Coaches are expected to keep feedback positive, rotate players through different positions, and ensure that every child feels involved.

What we develop

Winning is never the priority at Under-10 level. Our focus is on developing basic technical skills — passing, shooting, dribbling and ball control — alongside coordination, confidence, social skills, and a genuine love for the game. We take a whole-child approach, recognising that football at this age should enrich a child’s life, not define it.

Safeguarding

The welfare of every child in our programme is our highest priority. All sessions are supervised by a qualified coach and at least one other adult. Parents and guardians are required to be present at sessions, unless the club has been informed otherwise in advance.
